Frequently asked questions

How is the FERS annuity calculated?

FERS basic annuity = your high-3 average salary × years of creditable service × a multiplier. The multiplier is 1.0% per year, or 1.1% per year if you retire at age 62 or later with at least 20 years of service.

What is the high-3 in FERS?

Your high-3 is the average of your highest 36 consecutive months of basic pay - usually your final three years before retirement.

What is the FERS minimum retirement age (MRA)?

The MRA is 55 for those born before 1948, rising gradually to 57 for anyone born in 1970 or later. You can retire at your MRA with 30 years of service for an unreduced annuity.

Also project your TSP balance for the savings side of federal retirement.
