About GovCalcs
GovCalcs is a growing set of free calculators for U.S. government programs - Social Security, capital gains tax, the child tax credit, retirement, work and benefits - for anyone who needs a fast, honest answer.
The site exists because the big finance sites hide their answers behind 25-step forms designed to capture you as a sales lead. If you just want to estimate your Social Security benefit, you should not have to hand over your phone number first.
So this is simple: enter a few numbers, see the result, read the source.
Why trust the numbers
Every figure on the site comes from a public government source. We do not estimate, smooth, model, or guess.
- Social Security: SSA.gov benefit formulas and published cost-of-living adjustments
- Capital Gains + Child Tax Credit: IRS published brackets, thresholds, and phase-outs
- Work + wages: U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) published rules and tables
- Benefits: U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) published guidelines
Who built it
Solo developer. Independent and privately run. Not affiliated with the U.S. Government or any of its agencies. The site is funded by a small future affiliate component (financial products that already exist regardless), never by selling subscriber data.
Promises
- No mailing list rental, no data sale.
- No dark patterns. Unsubscribe is one click.
- Maximum 2-3 emails per year unless you opt into rate-change alerts.
- Source links on every result so you can verify.
- When a rate is wrong, fix it the same week it is reported.
Roadmap
Next things planned (in rough priority order):
- Full-year tax planner that ties the calculators together
- Side-by-side compare for every calculator
- Annual alert emails the day the IRS or SSA publishes new figures
- Passport processing-time and fee estimator
- Glossary of government benefit and tax terms
- State-level add-ons where federal numbers are not enough
